“Republic Day” Every year 26 January is celebrated as “Republic Day” in India with great joy and enthusiasm. This day holds a special place in the history of our country because on this day in 1950 the Constitution of India came into force. It is a symbol of independence and democratic values ​​of our country.

History of Republic Day:

On 26 January 1950, India enacted its Constitution and became a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic. In 1929, the Indian National Congress passed a resolution of “Purna Swaraj” (complete independence) at the Lahore session chaired by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

In the same session, it was decided that if the British government did not grant Dominion status to India by 26 January 1930, then India would celebrate this day as “Purna Swaraj Day”. Although, India got independence on 15 August 1947, but to maintain the historical importance of 26 January, this day was chosen as Republic Day.

Features of the Constitution:

The Constitution of India is the largest written constitution in the world. It took 2 years, 11 months and 18 days to prepare it. The Constituent Assembly adopted it on 26 November 1949 and it came into force on 26 January 1950. The Constitution gave India a democratic system, guaranteeing equal rights, liberty, and justice to all citizens.

Main features of the parade:
President’s Arrival: The parade begins with the arrival of the President. He takes the salute of the three armies.
Tableau Display: Tableaux from various states and union territories of the country showcase their culture and
traditions.

Military Display: Contingents of the Indian Army, Air Force,
Bravery Awards: During the parade awards are given to children and civilians for their bravery.
Fly Past: The fly past of fighter jets of the Indian Air Force concludes the parade.
